For those of you have not experienced the joys of K-Pop, you must must MUST watch this video Cry, by Mblaq. Boy bands may be a thing of the past in the U.S., but they are alive and thriving here. As a child of 90s, weened of Backstreet Boys and Nsync, I can't get enough.
There are, however, some noticeable differences. K-Pop stars take their appearance extreme. All the details from their color coiffs to their sparkly shoes are done up to the Lady Gaga max. To be fair, this video doesn't have sparkly shoes, but just watch for the rest of fun things - you'll see what I mean.
I am being to worry that I am acclimating a little too much into Korean culture. I showed this video to a friend, who was quick to point out the feminine quality of the singers. She's not wrong - one guy is wearing sparkly blue eye shadow, baby blue eye liner, and black eyeliner in one shot. He's got smoky grey eyes in another.
"Eh," I said, "I'm kind of just used to it by now."
"You should never become desensitized to a man wearing make-up," she said.
Anyways, guys. Enjoy, tell me what you think. Despite the fact that these guys are wearing make up, I think they're pretty good singers.
Boy bands make me so happy!
